Bossa Nova Classics
Saturday Concerts – Latin American Song Classics
Fred Martins, Voice and Guitar | Sergio Menem, Cello
The Fundación Juan March (Juan March Foundation) in Madrid, Spain, invites you to a concert from the series “Clásicos de la canción latinoamericana” (Latin-american song classics) with the theme Bossa Nova Classics
In the late 1950s, a group of musicians from Rio de Janeiro merged the vigorous rhythms of samba with the harmonies of jazz. Thus, bossa-nova was born, characterized by its sophisticated harmonies, refined melodies and delicate sounds. It became a musical symbol of Brazil and conquered the world.
The concert’s repertoire includes songs by Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, among others, as well as compositions by Fred Martins himself that reflect his bossa-nova base.
